51st Reunion Class Picnic

Our 51st (Informal) Reunion – Class Picnic featured good food, good cheer, good fun and terrible weather. Originally planned for the Verona Beach cottage of Carol and Don Miller (a special thanks to Carol and Don for offering their cottage), the rain and cool weather dictated that we make a quick retreat and search for a large sheltered area.  Fortunately, nearby Verona Beach State Park offered the perfect covered area and cooking facilities.  With the entire committee pitching in, the move was relatively easy and we were setup and ready to party despite the very unusual August weather.

Given the conditions we had a nice turnout.  Between 35 and 40 classmates, spouses and friends enjoyed some great food, including homemade Italian sausage, great salads and wonderful desserts. In fact, we probably had enough food to feed not only ourselves but also a Company of Marines as well.   And the nice thing about it – you know the food and copious desserts were all health foods and heart healthy - really, (YOLO) sometimes you just have to enjoy the moment.

It was truly fun getting together again.  In addition, it was special to have Al Sterling there and we appreciate the effort considering the difficulty he has getting around. Thanks to Dan Cochran for his efforts in running a 50/50 drawing and raising over $120 for the class website. Thank you to the Reunion Committee – it took a lot of planning and work to pull this off, especially given the weather.   As they have demonstrated many times in the past, they are dedicated to keeping our class relationships alive as we continue on our life’s journey.
