Harold DeBarr

 SHERRILL- Harold J. “Desi” De Barr, 71, Betsinger Road, died  Wednesday, September 14, 2016, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his family.
Born in Oneida, on March 4, 1945, he was the son of Edward and Ann Pierce De Barr.  A lifelong resident of Oneida, Desi was a graduate of Oneida High School, Class of 1964. On September 19, 1964, he married his high school sweetheart, Mary Ellen Smoyer.
Desi was briefly employed with the Oneida Dispatch as a typesetter, before beginning his forty-one year career with the Oneida Limited, Silversmith’s where he rose to be Corporate Senior Vice-President of Manufacturing and Engineering.
Desi was a huge New York Yankee and SU football and basketball fan, watching many games with his “De Barr Boys.” He also enjoyed many years of the weekly “friendly” games of poker with Don, “Dad”, Larry, John, Charlie, Howie, Mike and Matt.
Surviving besides his wife, of fifty-one years, Mary Ellen; are his daughter, Julie (Dan) Durant; his son, Jeffrey (Ann-Marie Fleming) DeBarr; grandchildren, Lauren (Jared) Von Matt, Emily (Thomas) Rath, Ryan DeBarr, Mitchell DeBarr and Nathan DeBarr; great grandchildren, Ryleigh, Troy and Finn Von Matt,  and Callaway, Mellisa and Linsey Rath; two sisters, Diane Stevens and Mary Brooks; two brothers, Len (JoAnn) DeBarr and Ron (Barbara) DeBarr; sister-in-law, Nancy DeBarr; brothers-in-law, James (Deborah) Smoyer, John Smoyer and special sister-in-law, Catherine Stevens and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, a granddaughter, Erin Durant, a brother, Edward DeBarr, brothers-in-law, Fred Stevens, James Brooks and Lee Stevens.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Upstate Medical Center and Oneida County Hospice and Palliative Care of New Hartford.
Funeral services will be held  11AM Tuesday from the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, 260 Main Street, Oneida with the Reverend William Mesmer, officiating. Interment will be made in St. Helena’s Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home, 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM, Monday.
